Some of us don’t know what to do when it comes to storage sheds. When purchasing a storage shed there are many variables to look for and a lot of holes to jump through; how big should it be? should I get one with a porch or just a door? just to name a few. Well, the good news is that today I will be answering all of those questions and providing you with a good storage shed company so you don’t have to waste time looking for one.
Heritage Structures is a storage shed building company in Medina, NY. Specializing in customer satisfaction, on time job completion, and staying within the existing quote, Heritage Structures NY is a “go to” when it comes to storage sheds. They build every kind of storage shed out there, cape cottage barns, new england dutch barns, they also do porch buildings and horse barns. If you don’t know what any of these things are just keep reading and I will explain in detail.
As well as telling you all you need to know about storage sheds I will also be giving you some comparisons between storage sheds and the alternative. Because some of us don’t know why storage sheds are important and how they can be useful. Sit back, get some sweet tea and let me edgamacate you on the subject of storage buildings.
Garden Sheds or Storage Sheds
First of all, some of us didn’t even know their was a difference between a garden shed and a storage shed. One big difference is that a garden shed is much smaller than a storage shed, some of then you can’t even stand up in! Secondly, the garden sheds aren’t very durable, because most of them are made of plastic. Think about it would you spend $700 on a garden shed that needs to be replaced every couple of months or would you rather spend a few thousand and never pay again.
Storage Buildings or Storage Sheds
If you choose to rent a storage space the things that you put in their will be really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer so you will have to be careful about what you put in their. Also if you choose to rent a storage building it will be roughly $70 dollars a month or you can get a storage shed for a few thousand dollars.
I will give an example if you have a storage space for just two years you will have spent 1700 dollars, and are no closer to owning it and that’s just two years I know people who have rented a storage space for 10 years that’s a whopping $8500. Take your pick.
Will a Storage Shed Increase Property Value?
I know there is a lot of debate about this question and I’m going to settle it right now. The sad truth is that most likely you will not be getting anything more for your house. This also depends on the appraiser but, most likely on the good side your storage shed will account for 1 to 2% of you house’s total value, so not great, right?
But don’t despair my friend there are some things you can do to get the most out of your shed. One big thing is to make sure you got a building permit to put your shed there, and you also want to make sure that the shed matches your house. There are other things you can do but you’ll have to visit this post for more information.
Is a Storage Shed DIY Worth it?
One big thing you have to consider when building your own shed is; do you have the tools. If you do not have tools required you could end up doubling your cost to build the shed. You’re going to want a battery powered saw and drill (I would recommend the Milwaukee M18 1/2″ Drill Driver this sucker has great power and lots of torque, but the Milwaukee tools are expensive, if you are looking for something more cost effective go with Black and Decker).
How Big Should my Storage Shed be?
I can’t tell you everything, this is something you will have to figure out yourself but I can give you some guidelines. You are going to want to take into account the size of your yard and the amount of crap you want to put in the shed. If you have a riding lawnmower and you plan to put it in the shed the shed obviously has to be big enough for that and have enough room for you to work on it without having to worry about space.
Let me tell you a story. Within the last two years me and my family moved to Dalton, OH, into a very large farm house (at least 2000 sq. feet). The house contained a minimum of 12 closets and a ton of space for everything. During the move we through out a lot of stuff, which meant when we settled into the new house half of the closets didn’t have anything in them. Having lived there for two years now the closets are almost full! When building or buying a storage shed you want to make sure you account for the accumulation of stuff.
